Common Sense About Starting A Business or Job At Home
This is a great time to start your own business, even if
you have never thought of yourself as an entrepreneur.
The economy is getting tighter, may companies are laying
people off, and a paycheck doesn't go as far as it used to.
Meanwhile, Internet businesses, (working at home) are
booming. We're also seeing record numbers of new
home-based businesses starting and succeeding. Getting
in on this trend now could be the smartest thing you do
in the year ahead.
Here are some common sense tips to help you pick the
right business, get off on a good foot, and succeed over
the long haul.
What Will You Do?
When making the decision to start a business or job at
home, you have to ask yourself, "what will I be doing?"
Are you going to buy into a business opportunity like
MLM or maybe an online store, or if a job at home where
do I find one.
Choosing Your Business
One of the reasons a great many businesses fail is the
owner jumped off into a field they didn't know much about.
Your best bet is to choose a business you have worked in as
an employee. Otherwise, plan to spend time researching
the topic in libraries and in conversations with people who
are already in your chosen industry.
What Will You Need To Start?
After you decide what to do, you will have to find out how
to do it. Do you have the knowledge, skills, resources,
equipment etc. The ones you donot have, you will have to
find or maybe outsource, to have someone else do it for
you. You might need a business mentor or sponser.
Part Time or Full Time?
You might have to plan on running your business part
time for a year while you keep a regular job. This may
seem like the slow way to get your project going, but a
regular paycheck will ensure you have plenty of time to
give your business its best shot at succeeding. Nothing
hurts a new business like expecting it to profit huge
amounts of cash within the first six months.
Once you figure out exactly what you will be doing, are
you willing to dedicate to it?
With A Business, How Will You Market It?
The key to your business success will likely be your ability
to market your products and/or services. Without marketing,
nothing sells. It helps if you set up your business from the
beginning with marketing in mind.
When you start a business, it is crucial to know your target
market and how you can reach them. A marketing plan can
help you create a positioning statement, identify your target
customers, and formulate strategies with corresponding time
lines on how you can reach them.
Be Determined
It doesn't matter what business you are in, there will be days
when you feel like you are spinning your wheels. Realize that
for every up trend there will eventually be a down trend.
When sales are slow or customers are difficult, remind yourself
that a turnaround for the best is always just beyond the bend.
Much of business success has to do with simply showing up for
work every day. When people see you or hear about you month
after month, then year after year, your consistent presence
builds customer confidence. Confidence turns into loyalty.
Repeat customers and good word of mouth will insure you get
repeat sales for as long as you own your business.
Whats Your Exit Strategy?
I am a firm believer of the saying, "you do not start out by
giving up", however a realistic and tangible exit strategy should
be a critical component of your business plan.
Thinking of an exit strategy while just starting a home business
is not about pessimism, rather it is about smart planning. Are
you planning to work your business into retirement? Do you
envision turning it over to your children? A long term strategy
will allow you to plan exactly how to reach the goals you have
set for yourself.
Doing your homework on any business or job at home is the
beginning of success. Working at home can be a great life style
but remember it is work. Do not get caught up in all the "get rich
quick " scams out there.
"the few who do are the envy of the ones that only watch"
I hope this gives you some direction and for all my many friends
online, and soon to be, I hope this is what you were expecting of
me and I will be giving you more. Watch your emails and I will let
you know more about what I have learned working at home.

Tony,
Great site and very informative I have a home based business witch I work at home, I am a Web Designer and Programmer. My site can be found at www.jdawebdesign.com I have also been working with some online network marketing systems and they all seem the same. After reading your web site, I found soo many true statements you have made. MLM is not the only way to make money online, in fact it is they one I dislike the most (simply because I have lost money at it). Thank you looking forward to seeing you on you blog soon.
WOW!!! This is what I have been looking for. A place where I can find "real" information from people just like me
Thanks
Tony,
As always you think of the people. That is what has always made you stand out. Just down home honest values that sadly you do not find often. Yes it is true. There are so many ways that a person can work from home if they would just take the time and search themselves and see what it is they have a passion about. Then make those dreams a reality. I look forward to reading more.
Keep me posted and don't forget to send a ping each time you post.....

It's nice to actually see some straight forward info on this without all the hype.
Tony, you said what needs to be said about working from home straight-forwardly. It's absolutely true that working a business from home or working a job from home is still "work."...So many people forget that so thanks for bringing it back to the forefront.
Planning, good quality information like found on your blog, the right online tools and resources to help market PLUS IMPLEMENTATION of all the above(commonly known as "taking-action" are all critical areas that you outlined so well.
Great information and look forward to your next post working at home using common sense.
Thanks,
Lamar Owens
