What Is Work At Home?
Have you ever thought about that question? Do you know what
working at home means?
This might seem like a strange question but I talk to people
everyday that have opted in, in some form or fashion such as a
home business survey, to find out about working at home.
Then get pounded with calls and/or emails about Muti- level
marketing. Most people associate these with pyramid scams.
I am not here to debate if MLM is good or bad. My point is that
there are many ways to work at home, and I do not believe
there is one business or job at home that fits everyone. You
should know your options so you can make an informed decision
on what YOU want to do.
This can be anything from owning your own business to a job at
home and with many combinations and variations.
It's one thing to want to work at home and be your own boss. It's
completely another to know what kind of work at home business
you will do good with and enjoy. The best way of achieving success
with any work at home business idea is to find something that you
enjoy and are good at. Your skills and interests should influence
your decision the most.
Knowing what interests you and fires you up is usually how to
identify what direction to go. Being able to completely assess your
own skills isn't quite so easy because most people have a tendency
to underplay what they are capable of doing, whilst glossing over
things that they have little or no ability with what so ever! If you
want to create a profitable work at home business, this isn't going
to work. You need to complete an honest inventory of what skills
you have.
You can find out alot if you have some close friends, family and co-
workers give you their opinions on what they think you are skilled
in and where you are lacking. You will be surprised at some skills
that you did not know you had.
When you decide it's time to start seriously considering a work at
home business or job, set aside some time, maybe a couple of hours
or more, when you won't be disturbed, and sit down with a pen and
piece of paper. Make two columns down the center of the paper. At
the top of one column will be "Skills" and at the top of the second
column"Challenges". Now comes the tricky part. Seriously think
about your natural abilities, skills and education and make a note of
every positive attribute you possess in the"Skills" column. Make sure
you include things such as an ability to write, manage, adapt to new
things, find bargains etc. And don't forget the answers your friends and
so on listed.
Once this list is complete, turn your attention to the things that you
aren't so good at and make another list identifying these points. Again
ask your friends, etc., if they agree with it, and if they can think of
anything you have missed. Often it's the people closest to us who are
able to identify our strengths and weaknesses easier than we can ourselves!
Now it's time to assess what kind of work at home business or job will fit.
For this to work you have to know what is involved in each work at home
opportunity.
Find as many different opportunities as possible and do your home work.
As for anything that is hard to identify exactly what you will have to do,
that is problably good reason to steer away from them.
All real, solid business models or jobs let you know what they are doing in
good detail. Some may require more effort to get all the information you
are looking for, but within reason. And by now you should have an idea
of at least what field or subject matter you are interested in.
It's human nature to spend more energy and time on the things you like
to do and enjoy, so this should start you out on the right track to work at home.
I want to thank everyone again for your feedback, all the phone calls, emails
and comments. I will get back to you and some of the subjects you wish me to
talk about soon.
Until then I hope you have a great day and much success working at home.
